Technological innovation in neurological physiotherapy is transforming how we help our clients, combining hands-on therapy with advancements in robotics and other wearable devices and cutting-edge equipment. For example:
SMART treadmill
We’ve got a new de-weighting treadmill in our gym for gait analysis and rehabilitation. The games linked to it help motivate our clients to develop improved control over their stride length, weight bearing, weight transference and cadence. The games, which can even incorporate Virtual Reality (VR) are engaging with the added benefit of gathering data over time to monitor progress.
Thera bike
This is another well used piece of kit in our gym. The THERA-Trainer tigo is a motor-assisted stationary cycling trainer for legs and upper body. It facilitates functional recovery and improves motor skills in the lower and upper body from the comfort of a chair or wheelchair. We use it in a complete passive mode for someone who needs to work on their range of motion or circulation, through someone who needs some assistance to achieve cycling to a very fit client who use full resistance to build muscle and cardiovascular fitness.
Biometric force plates
This is a biofeedback machine analysing balance and weight transference in sitting or standing over four force plates. Feedback is via games, designed to motivate and reports are generated to show progress and areas that need working on.
MYO X
A small EMG that is placed on specific muscles to give biofeedback. This activity can then be integrated into motivating games to activate those specific muscles. We can also produce and analyse reports of this activity analysed to share progress.
Grippable
We often use this handheld device with its gamified mobile platform to assess and train hand and arm functions. It also aids motivation with the biofeedback.
