Summerseat Physiotherapy is one of the leading specialist complex injury clinics in the North West. Established in 2014, and led by Ann Pimm, the team of specialist physiotherapists treat adults and children with neurological conditions.

We pride ourselves on creating bespoke neurological rehabilitation programmes with the client at the very centre of everything we do. Our therapists work in home and community settings as well as at our state-of-the-art clinic situated in Summerseat, North of Manchester.

We are looking to recruit a Lead Paediatric Specialist Neurological Physiotherapist with at least 10 years’ experience of working with children living with neurological conditions. The role is permanent and full time (although we’re flexible and so will consider part time applications).

Job Description: Lead Paediatric Specialist Neurological Physiotherapist

Essential Criteria:

  • Graduate Diploma, Ordinary Degree or Honours Degree in Physiotherapy plus evidence of appropriate post graduate development
  • At least 10 years working in specialist neurological physiotherapy and experience treating children with neurological conditions
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council and Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
  • Membership to ACPIN and APCP
  • Enhanced DBS check
  • Full driving licence and a car for business use
  • Good understanding of Manual Handling

Desirable Criteria:

  • Some understanding of the medico-legal process
  • Experience in hydrotherapy
  • Specialist in a sub area of neurological physiotherapy e.g. Lycra suits, FES, balance rehabilitation

Clinical job responsibilities:

  • Baseline of clinical job responsibilities as covered in the specialist neurological physiotherapist job description
  • Co-ordinate and prioritise workloads and facilitate the paediatric team to be able to do this.
  • Support the paediatric team to develop their professional ability in completing assessments and providing appropriate SMART goals and reports.
  • Complete a monthly formal clinical discussion, reviewing their time management, clinical intervention, therapy progression, note writing and professional advice with relevant team members.
  • Maintain an overview of the effects of physiotherapy treatments completed by the paediatric team and ensure feedback and progression as appropriate.
  • Attend and contribute at the monthly Lead Team Meetings with good communication and positive working towards excellence within Summerseat Physiotherapy Clinic.
  • Attend and contribute at the yearly business planning meeting in April.
  • Feedback regarding team paediatric clinical activity at lead and team meetings.
  • Look wider to promote alternative resources to develop paediatric physiotherapy such as new treatments, activities, and equipment.
  • Highlight the paediatric team activities and send promotion to the admin team.
  • Liaise with other local MDT’s, equipment providers and wider community regarding multi-service training, bringing suggestions back to the lead clinical meetings.
  • Identify staff training needs and promote their development with clinical support and professional career development.
  • Take an active interest in national policies for physiotherapy interventions.
  • Take an active interest in research with an annual presentation of a case study of a Summerseat client at the summer team meeting with relevant references.

  • Excellent communication and negotiation ability in both written and verbal work.
  • An ability to work autonomously, plan own diary and adapt to a dynamic caseload.
  • Professional presentation, good time keeping and punctuality.
  • Commitment to appropriate continuous professional development and an ability to identify and promote own learning needs.
  • Appropriate level of fitness so as to undertake the manual tasks required of a treating therapist
  • Awareness of the importance of their own personal health and safety and that of others
